In the Audience....
Again, feeling very grateful to be able to see these artists and the opportunity to share my thoughts with you as I witness dance on the international stage.
I struggle with the concept that a group of white men felt they needed to create an exclusive organization dedicated to the development of men. Both choreographers have received OBEs for their dedication to dance.
The dancers were light, confident, divine. The choreography was light, confident and divine. But there was no weight to it. Nothing that shifted or altered my perception.
The words "transcended gender" were used in the lobby.
Is it true? No.
I wonder what this work offers and I want to appreciate the work. But know deep down this is a reflection of all that is wrong with the world. Privileged sections of society, not able to see the deeply rooted bias and discrimination that is deemed to be acceptable. I write this on International Women's Day, and know there's a lot more work to be done.
