How can the future of dance cross boundaries, social, physical, cultural? How can dance better contribute to a rich and harmonious urban life?
Motivation for this project stems from a commitment to reveal and highlight the importance of dance in how we live, learn
and relate to each other. Passionate about dance, as an art form; as an experience of the body while striving to highlight the
importance of dance in a society that is exponentially changing as a result of new technologies.
Exponential technologies are those which are rapidly accelerating and shaping major industries and all aspects of our lives; artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality (AR, VR), data science, digital biology and biotech, medicine, nanotech and digital fabrication, networks and computing systems, robotics, and autonomous vehicles.
Solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges lie at the intersection of these exponential technologies.
The conversation will begin with a series of questions:
How can we bring dance into this conversation?
How can the knowledge of the dance community influence the formation of our future?
How will the body be viewed in the future?
How will dance be impacted?
How can dance impact our future world for the better?
For example, consider a potential physical experience that connects dancers and audience by biosensors - connecting heart
beats and generating a new experience of dance. Or, consider another solution that might use choreography and blockchain
technology, to develop AI to deepen our understanding how certain movements impact our emotional wellbeing. These are
the types of solutions we are trying to mobilize in dance, through the learning in this project.
Goals:
We will create connections between and discuss the intersections of dance performance, new media and virtual worlds in
Canada. Identifying key themes, key stakeholders and areas to focus.
We will plant the seeds to create opportunities for discourse on the future of dance, consult on creativity and technology and
present into a wide variety of sectors on the body and technological evolutions. We aim to enable body knowledge to be shared
through technologies and sectors.
Shifting paradigms of thought in the realm of dance, performance and community.
Delving deep into new ways of seeing the body in society, creating space for re-aligning aesthetic values in dance, creating
space for new voices, new aesthetics in a new concept of dance and the body in mixed realities and immersive technologies.
